Polybutylene pipe, otherwise known as poly b piping, was widely used as a flexible, durable, and affordable plumbing material for around two decades. Construction and plumbing experts chose this material due to the rising costs of copper piping and wiring during the late 1970s.
However, though poly b piping was both affordable and durable, the pipes don’t stand up to the test of time. As polybutylene is now known to be prone to warping and cracking, more durable materials have slowly replaced poly b pipes.
